How long does a sew-in weave last? ›

The lifespan of sew in hair extensions can vary depending on growth and maintenance at home. On average, a healthy sew-in can last anywhere from 6-8 weeks. To maintain its quality, we suggest visiting for a maintenance appointment every two weeks for a shampoo and at four weeks for a shampoo and tightening.

A Full Weave Install

If you're buying packs, two (2) will be more than enough. For a fuller look, three (3) packs is recommended, although you may not end up using it all. If you're buying bundles, on average three (3) bundles should do, but you may use 2-4, depending on fullness and length.

To achieve a full look, you will need from 2-3 bundles with a lace frontal and from 3-4 bundles with a lace closure. Whatever bundle hairstyles you decide to on, keep in mind that bundles are great investments, as they typically last for much longer and allow you to experiment with a variety of desired hairstyles.

If you would describe your hair as “average” and neither thick nor thin, the general rule of 8 packs will most likely apply to you in this instance. If you have thick hair, to achieve a full head you may find that you require more than 8 packs, and we would recommend purchase at least an additional 2 just in case.

Sew in hair extensions are more durable than glue in extensions because they do not damage your natural hair. Sew ins are also easier to maintain and less expensive than glue ins.

You should wash your sew-in approximately as often as you wash your natural hair. At maximum, you can wait two weeks between washes, but not everyone's scalp can tolerate infrequent washing, so it may create dandruff. If you exercise often or have an oily scalp, you'll need to wash your sew-in more often.

Three bundles for a full sew-in typically the magic number. With three bundles anywhere from 14″ — 20″ your weave will be full, flowy, and glamorous. Anything less, 2 bundles would be perfect. If your sew-in is starting with lengths over 22″ you might want to consider four bundles to five bundles.
